Volunteers’ Responsibilities & Impact
Working as a medical volunteer in Argentina, you can expect to work around 4-5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. You will participate in a variety of activities. Depending on your individual skills, interests and the needs of the local staff, youractivities may include:
- Planning and carrying out educational workshops
- Teaching personal hygiene
- Teaching locals about nutrition and a healthy diet
- Providing personal care
- Helping with vaccinations
- Working on disease prevention through education
- Observing how Argentina’s healthcare system works
- Participating in training
- Helping with administrative tasks
- Promoting clean environments and communities

Skills and Qualifications:
This program is open to students and recent graduates pursuing a career in the medical field, or medical professionals who would like to give back and gain insight into the Argentinian healthcare system.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Intermediate level Spanish is required. If you cannot speak Spanish well, we suggest you enroll in our Spanish language course to make your stay more rewarding – both for you and for the people you help.
Each and every day as a medical volunteer in Argentina will be greatly rewarding as well as present you with fun and exciting new experiences on a daily basis.
Your volunteer placement will vary based on your skills, background, interests and the current needs of the project. Because of this, your schedule will be variable and won’t be exactly what you see here. We’ve provided a general sample schedule just to give you an idea of what to expect.
First Day: On your first day of yourArgentina medical volunteer program, our in-country coordinator will bring you to your volunteer placement and introduce you to the professional medical staff you’ll be working with. You’ll have an informative orientation session in which you’ll learn all about your project, get a rundown on your daily schedule, go over safety measures, and get a briefing on Argentina and its customs and culture.
Weekdays: Your medical work begins on the second day, and atypical volunteer day is as follows:
7.00 to 7.30 AM: Enjoy a nutritious and delicious local breakfast to begin your day.
7.45 AM: You will head out to your placement and get started working with what the doctors and nurses have planned for the day. Your hours and duties will vary, but you can be sure to be immersed in a medical setting learning a lot and helping others.
12.00 PM: Take a break for a delicious Argentinian lunch.
3.00 PM: Around this time, you’ll wrap up your volunteering for the day. You’ll be free to explore the fascinating city of Cordoba, or head back to your accommodations and relax after a hard day’s work.

We believe in 100% transparency. Rest assured, we never use middlemen. Your one-time registration fee of $299 covers our administrative costs. The low weekly fee is paid in the host country directly to your host family and project (via country coordinator), and includes housing, food, and minor expenses. IFRE is a non-profit organization, so your program fees are tax deductible.

Accommodation and Meal
IFRE has you covered when it comes to accommodations for your Argentina medical volunteer project. You’ll have safe, clean and comfortable housing either in a hostel with fellow volunteers, or as a guest in the home of one of our welcoming homestay families, giving you the chance to make new friends or immerse yourself in the local culture. Medical Volunteer Argentina:FAQs
You can rest easy knowing IFRE takes care of all the little details needed to go into making sure you have the most successful volunteer abroad experience possible. Here are some of those details we think you should be aware of.
Arrival and departure
You will fly into Pajas Blancas International Airport for. Be sure to provide your in-country coordinator with your flight itinerary, and they will schedule for your local representative to pick you up from the airport. You’ll find them waiting for you with a sign with your name on it, and they will escort you to your accommodation.
Following the completion of your volunteer project, you’ll need to arrange and pay for your own departure transportation. Our local project staff will be happy to let you know how to book a taxi to the airport.
Medical Volunteer Argentina: Visa
You will need to obtain a tourist visa from the embassy of Argentina prior to your departure from your home country in order to participate in our program. Most single-entry tourist visas last for about 90 days.
However, citizens of countries such as New Zealand, America, the UK, Australia and Canada can enter Argentina without obtaining a tourist visa and can get a visa stamp of 90 days upon arriving at the international airport in Argentina. Do some research ahead of time to learn the requirements for your home country.
You just need to pay a visit to the Immigration Office and fill out a visa extension form in order to extend their visa if they wish to stay on longer than originally planned. You can learn more about Argentina tourist visas here:
Vaccination
Polio, rabies, Hepatitis A, influenza, chickenpox, hepatitis B, pneumonia, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), meningitis, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), typhoid, yellow fever, and shingles are the recommended vaccines for a volunteer trip in Argentina.

Any important information you want to share about this project?
You must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate at an intermediate or advanced level of Spanish to ensure you can interact fully with both the local staff and patients. Interns should also dress professionally, wearing scrubs, for this international medical internship.
Applications must be received at least 6 weeks prior to yourstart date.
According to the Criminal Records Review Act, all volunteers who are enrolled in programs that include a practicum component involving working with children or vulnerable adults will have to undergo a criminal record check before they will be permitted to register for volunteering.
