Available Volunteer Opportunities in Tanzania
We offer a broad range of volunteer programs aimed at fitting your needs and interests. You can volunteer working in an orphanage, teaching English, or helping in the medical field. We can tailor the programs to fit your needs.
Tanzania Orphanage Project
Tanzania is drowning in poverty, HIV/AIDS, and unemployment. The issue of abandoned children is tragic, and the orphanages are in desperate need of help to provide safe homes for these children and keep them off the streets.
You can volunteer at the orphanage in Tanzania and help take care of the children. This will positively change your life!
Skills Needed: You do not need any skills or prior experience to volunteer at the orphanage in Tanzania. You do need to be loving, patient, and eager to work with the children. You should act as a role model for these destitute children.
Volunteer Chores : Tanzania orphanage volunteers will teach English for a few hours each day. Typically, you will teach English, assist with hygiene, and life skills. You might be asked to help with other activities to entertain the children or helping in the kitchen.
Teach English in Tanzania
Tanzania is a huge tourist spot. The need to be able to speak English and communicate with the tourists is huge. Many of the schools do not have the resources to provide an adequate English education for the students.
You can volunteer teaching in Tanzania and give these students the chance for a better future they deserve!
Qualification Required: You do not need any skills or experience to volunteer teaching in Tanzania. All you need is a big heart, compassion, and patience. Teaching experience is beneficial but not mandatory. Native speakers are preferred but those fluent in English will be welcomed.
Volunteer Chores: As a volunteer teaching in Tanzania, you will teach English for part of the day, 6 days a week. You can help in other areas to entertain the children such as playing games, singing, and dancing. Administration tasks may also be assigned to you.
Health/Medical Projects
Hospitals and clinics in Tanzania are short staffed and lack the resources to get updated equipment. Help is urgently needed to continue providing basic health care to the poor and suffering locals. You can volunteer as a nurse in Tanzania.
You can help provide care to the people in the outer cities and villages. Responsibilities will vary based on your experience, but all help is appreciated!
Skills Needed: Anyone wanting to volunteer in the medical programs in Tanzania are only required to be eager to help and show compassion with the patients. Prior experience or education is not required. We will place you based on your experience and interests.
Volunteer Jobs: As a medical volunteer in Tanzania, you will help doctors and nurses with an array of chores. You can help take vital signs, document patient’s histories, and give basic first aid. You will not be allowed to preform major exams or surgeries.
Volunteer with HIV/AIDS projects
Tanzania is suffering with a grave epidemic of HIV/AIDS. They desperately need HIV/AIDS volunteers to help stop the spread of this horrible disease. You can help by with testing, counseling, and awareness projects.
You can work in the hospitals and clinics teaching the patients already infected on how they can prevent spreading the disease and how to live a healthy life despite their illness. You can also work with the communities and promote HIV/AIDS awareness.
Required Skills: Prior skills are not needed to volunteer with HIV/AIDS programs in Tanzania. We only require you to be interested in helping these poor people.
Volunteer Tasks: Projects are focused on two areas, treatment and promoting awareness. As a HIV/AIDS volunteer in Tanzania, you will visit patients infected with HIV/AIDS and give out clothes, food, medicine, and counseling and support.
You will also participate in awareness programs in the community. You will visit schools, villages, and communities to educate them about the disease.
Volunteer in Tanzania for the Summer
Volunteer summer camps in Tanzania are a wonderful way to explore while helping the needy. You can hike the enormous mountains, explore the Serengeti, and discover the different cultures.
You can visit the Maasai tribes or get to know the veiled women in Islamic Sone Town. There is something for everyone!
Orientation And Discussion (Day 1)
Day 1, you will meet and get to know the staff, review your itinerary, and learn the basics of the local culture and important issues.
Volunteer Service Projects: Arusha (Days 2-23)
During your volunteer summer camp, you will work in the orphanage helping with the children. You will teach basic English and sharing your love and compassion with these children. In your free time you can explore the surrounding areas.
Tanzanian Safari And Excursions (Days 24-28)
The last part of your volunteer summer camp will be spent travelling and exploring all the major sights in Tanzania. You will camp for 7 days in the majestic parks of northern Tanzania. You will walk through the Maasai Land right past the N’gorongoro Crater, see the Sergengeti, and experience a bird’s paradise at Lake Manyara National Park. There is so much to see and enjoy!
This is an example itinerary and may change based on the needs of volunteers and staff.

Most programs are available year-round. We recommend volunteers begin their placements on a Monday, scheduling their arrival and departure on the weekends. However, due to flight availability, particularly traveling internationally, start dates are flexible.
We ask that all volunteers ensure to communicate their arrival and departure plans clearly to their country coordinator to ensure transportation and accommodations are properly arranged.

IFRE fees comprise of two separate fees:
- Application fee of $299 USD (covers advertising, staff/office expenses, etc.)
- Weekly program fee paid directly to your project (covers room/board, field support, etc).
You will pay your fee directly to host families and projects. In this way, what you pay will go directly from you to the people who deserve it (not for profit).

Lodging/Food/Supervision
We are responsible for all f your needs during your volunteer projects in Tanzania. If you are placed with a host family, you can be assured they are safe and eager to have you. They will provide you with three cooked meals a day. If you stay at our home base, our resident cook with cook your three meals a day for you.
Our local staff organizer will be available to you 24 hours a day during your entire volunteer project for any questions or concerns.
