What volunteer opportunities are available in Guatemala
We have many volunteer opportunities in Guatemala where you can join the fight to end poverty. You can help in an orphanage, teach, or join a medical program. All are important to improving the futures of the Guatemalan people.
Guatemala Orphanage Project
Abandoned children are a huge problem in Guatemala. Many families deal with poverty, abuse, and alcoholism and are either left to fend for themselves in the streets or run away to get away from the abuse.
Our programs to volunteer in a Guatemalan orphanage help give these kids a safe and loving place they can call home. These orphanages lack funding and staff to provide adequate care to these children. This is where you come in! Volunteer today and help show these children the love they deserve.
Orphanage volunteers will help with daily tasks of the orphanage. You will cook, clean, help with the children, and any other tasks staff needs. You can even teach and play games with the children.
Required Skills: Skills are not required to volunteer with the children in Guatemala. We only require you to be passionate and caring towards the children. We desire you to be flexible and understanding with these abused and neglected children.
Volunteer Responsibilities: When you volunteer in the Guatemalan orphanage, you will teach English for a few hours each day. You will also help with getting the children dressed, personal hygiene, and transporting them to school.
Volunteers will also be asked to help with the smaller children who do not attend school, cooking and cleaning, and working in the garden. There is always work to do to benefit the orphanage.
Teach in Guatemala Project
Because of the increasing amount of English speaking tourist that flock to Guatemala, the youth of Guatemala desperately need to learn English to be able to get better jobs.
. Regrettably, the rural schools do not have the money or staff to teach this language in demand. Volunteers in schools are urgently needed to help solve this problem.
You can help by volunteering at a school in Guatemala to help these disadvantaged children lean English. You will be helping them to have a brighter outlook on their future. Join the mission to help these children have a chance at a better life.
Required Skills: We desire our education volunteers to be passionate about teaching children. It is beneficial to know some Spanish, but it is not mandatory. We do request that you are patient and caring with the children. No specific skills are required.
Volunteer Tasks: Volunteers with education in Guatemala, will follow the local curriculum for teaching English. You will teach English to the younger students in rural areas of Guatemala. You will be helping these students to have a chance at a brighter future and rise out of poverty.
Health Projects
Guatemala is an underdeveloped country striving to keep progress with the times. Still, there are many Guatemalan people who do not have access to basic healthcare.
Medical volunteers in Guatemala will see first hand the struggles of healthcare in a deprived country.
Public health volunteers in Guatemala will have an amazing learning experience. You will not only learn from local doctors, you will have the chance to see different diseases that are all but extinct in the western states.
Come be on the front line and see the challenges these hard-working healthcare people of Guatemala face each day.
Required Qualifications: To volunteer in healthcare and medicine in Guatemala, you do not need any experience. We will assign you based on your background and the needs of the staff. Students, professionals, and retirees are all welcome!
Volunteer Jobs: When you volunteer with the healthcare program in Guatemala, you will assist with multiple tasks based on your experience. You can help the doctors and nurses with basic tasks.
You may be assigned to any one of the major departments of the hospital or health clinic. Because of liability issues, you will not be allowed to assist with surgery or major exams.
Volunteer Program Fees & Dates:
Volunteer Program Dates
Most programs are available year-round. We recommend volunteers begin their placements on a Monday, scheduling their arrival and departure on the weekends. However, due to flight availability, particularly traveling internationally, start dates are flexible.
We ask that all volunteers ensure to communicate their arrival and departure plans clearly to their country coordinator to ensure transportation and accommodations are properly arranged.
