Available Opportunities to Volunteer in Mexico
We offer volunteer programs for a variety of interests. You can choose from teaching English, volunteering with a turtle conservation, and working with children. All of these programs are important to help the destitute communities of Mexico.
Teach English in Mexico
English is taught in most of the primary and secondary schools of Mexico, unfortunately the schools lack the monetary resources to give the students the attention they need to meet the standards for advancement.
The books at the University are mainly in English, if kids cannot read or speak English, they cannot continue their education starting the cycle of poverty. You can volunteer teaching English in Mexico and help these unfortunate children have a chance for a brighter future.
Continuing their education will enable these poor children to get better, support their families, and rise out of poverty.
You can provide the change these children desperately need!
Required Education: Experience or prior skills are not required to volunteer teaching in Mexico. Knowing how to speak Spanish is not required but is beneficial to you and the students. We desire our volunteers to be eager and enjoy working with kids of all ages.
Volunteer Assignments: Teaching volunteers will assist educators with the children. You will be placed at primary or technical schools in the rural areas. You will teach grammar and conversational English, help plan lessons, and other activities the teachers may need. Volunteers on this placement act as assistants to the teachers in the classroom either in one.
Working with Disabled Children in Mexico
Are you passionate able working with disabled children? Our teaching volunteer programs are a great way to show you compassion while helping these unfortunate children. Barra de Navidad has only one school for disabled children.
Children travel from far away to come and the school is overcrowded. The school is understaffed and is continuously in need of volunteers to help.
Volunteer Duties: As a volunteer teaching in Mexico, you will help with all levels of education. You will assist the teachers in the classroom, plan lessons, and give individual attention, love, and support to these children. Not only will you help teach but you can help with fund raising activities to support the school.
Desired Skills: Some Spanish is desired, so you can talk with students and staff. This is the perfect opportunity for persons wanting a career in education, but the program is open to all interested. Volunteers to teach in Mexico are desperately and will be welcomed.
Sea Turtle Conservation Program
Our sea turtle conservation volunteer opportunities in Mexico offer you a great way to help the turtles while experiencing a beautiful country. The project is located on the beach of Colima in the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
It was started by a local fisherman 24 years ago. He saw the decline of nesting turtles and knew something had to be done.
Sea turtles are protected by the law as endangered species but still, people kill them and take their eggs. The fishermen along with the help of volunteers save thousands of nests every year. You are very much needed to help continue saving these precious nests.
Volunteer Jobs: Volunteers at the turtle conservation in Mexico will be hands on with a variety of tasks to help preserve the turtle nests. You will patrol the beach during the nights, monitor nesting activity, and release the baby turtles into the ocean. During the day, you will clean out the hatched nests, collect data, and help monitor the local crocodile inhabitants.
Qualifications to Volunteer: Previous experience or training is not needed, we will train you on-site once you arrive. Some Spanish comprehension would help you communicate with local staff, but it is not mandatory. Students wanting to enhance their knowledge or that are interested in biological science will greatly benefit from this project.
