Tanzania Projects
Free Time and Weekends
When you volunteer in Tanzania, you will work about 4-6 hours a day in your respective project. You will usually enroll in our program from 8-AM in the morning to 3 PM in the evening from Monday to Friday, with the remainder of the day free for you to explore and experience the nearby area.
Our volunteer projects are located in Arusha, Moshi and Boma which are all located on the famous Serengeti and its “Northern Safari Loop”. During your afternoons and evenings, you’ll get to explore the surroundings of each city, while the weekends will offer you plenty of opportunity to explore the famous wildlife reserves, national parks and spectacular scenery that the region is famous for.

Explore Arusha
Arusha is a bustling city set amongst spectacular African wildlife and scenery at the base of Mt. Meru. The city itself is famous for its vibrant nightlife and culinary scene, presenting you with plenty of ways to relax and blow off steam after a rewarding day of volunteer work.
The city also boasts several interesting museums, with the Cultural Heritage Centre offering a fantastic and educational look at various African cultures. The Old Boma Museum (or Natural History Museum) is also fantastic, presenting an in-depth look both at Tanzanian history and wildlife.
Outside of the city awaits some truly awe-inspiring sights and scenery. Nearby Arusha National Park contains famous Mount Meru and the Ngurdoto Crater, where you can enjoy sweeping vistas, gorgeous waterfalls and abundant wildlife.
Meserani Snake Park, Serengeti Heritage, and Lake Duluti are other interesting places to explore near Arusha while participating in our volunteering in Tanzania projects, and a great way to experience these as well as the nearby rural villages is to rent a bike and cruise freely from village to village, giving you a deep understanding and appreciation for Tanzanian rural life.
Explore Boma
Boma is a traditional Maasai settlement in Tanzania, located not too far away from Arusha itself. Staying here is a fascinating perspective on the Tanzanian cultures and traditions that have been preserved here for generations. The center of the city is home to the Maasai’s livestock, and when staying here during your Tanzania volunteering trip, you will get to see small huts made up of the mixture of cattle dung and mud and enclosed by stockades.
Like Arusha, Boma is surrounded by amazing scenery and wildlife, including the famous Mount Kilimanjaro, which looms over the town.Explore Moshi
Moshi, a northern Tanzanian town, is the entrance to the famous Kilimanjaro National Park, located right outside of the city. It should come as no surprise then, that Moshi offers a plethora of amazing natural sights, such as the Kikuletwat hotpsrings, the serene Lake Chala and of course mighty Kilimanjaro itself.
The city also boasts a lively nightlife, and Club La Liga, one of Tanzania’s most popular night clubs, is located here.

Weekend Excursions
Your weekends during your Tanzania volunteering program will be yours to head out on longer tours or excursions. As all three volunteering locations are located fairly close together on the Northern Safari Loop, these can be visited regardless of which location you are placed in.
Of the nearby attractions, Mount Kilimanjaro is undoubtedly the most famous. While a full trek to the summit takes too long for just a weekend, there are many shorter treks you can take that still allow you to experience the splendor of the famous mountain.
While not as famous as Kilimanjaro, Arusha National Park is also a great place to spend a weekend. Natural wonders such as Mount Meru, Ngurdoto Crater, and Engare Seru waterfall are located here, and it’s especially convenient for volunteers staying in Arusha City, as the park is right on your doorstep.
Located about a day’s drive to the west of Arusha is Serengeti National Park, where thousands of square kilometers of this unique and signature ecosystem has been wonderfully protected and preserved. It’s here that the famous annual wildebeest migration takes place, and if you’re lucky enough to be volunteering at the right time you might even get the chance to see it in action!
On your way to Serengeti National Park from Arusha you can also visit Ngorongoro Crater, the largest inactive volcano crater in the world. Standing atop the rim and peering out over the truly massive 600-meter-deep crater is an experience like none other, and the breathtaking view as well as the rich wildlife within are sure to leave a lasting impression.
