Prospective participants aiming to engage in our volunteer medical program in Zimbabwe should have prior experience and training in the medical field. Whether you're a nurse, doctor, or medical student with a deep affection and dedication to assisting the most vulnerable, this project is well-suited for you. A compassionate nature, considerable patience, and a genuine desire to extend healthcare services to those facing financial constraints or limited access are essential traits.
Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old to qualify for participation.
Medical Volunteering in Zimbabwe: Volunteer Responsibilities& Impact:
In many parts of Africa, particularly in rural areas, millions of people endure harsh living conditions with limited access to basic necessities such as water, shelter, and food. Zimbabwe, facing a notably low medical infrastructure, forces individuals to undertake extensive journeys to seek healthcare. Hospitals and medical centers in the country suffer from severe shortages of drugs, medical equipment, and healthcare professionals.
To address these challenges, our program collaborates with a local hospitals in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Volunteers play a vital role in administrative tasks, basic treatments, and patient support. They actively engage in community health awareness programs, educating residents about prevalent diseases like HIV/AIDS and Malaria.
Additionally, volunteers contribute to the hospital's Home-Based Programs, offering assistance to HIV-infected community members and elderly individuals. Volunteers gaining exposure to various hospital departments, fostering an understanding of the Zimbabwean healthcare system. While on-call duties may arise, maintaining a positive mindset and a proactive approach ensures a rewarding experience for volunteers.
First Day: On your first day of Zimbabwe medical volunteering, your in-country coordinator will bring you to your clinic and hospital and introduce you to your fellow medical staff. The day will be spent briefing you on your duties and getting to know the staff.
Weekdays: Your medical work starts on the second day, and while every day will present a brand new and exciting challenge, a typical day looks like this:
6.00 to 7.30 AM: Breakfast is served, consisting of a delicious and authentic home cooked meal.7.45 AM: After a hearty meal you set out for an incredibly rewarding day of helping save lives.
12.00 PM: Around noon you will get a break for lunch together with your new colleagues.
3.00 PM: Around this time your medical work will conclude for the day, and you have the rest of the afternoon and evening to discover everything the nearby area has to offer.
Program Dates
IFRE’s Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe volunteer programs begin every Monday year-round. If you have travel constraints, you can still start your chosen program on any day of the year.

We believe in 100% transparency. Rest assured; we never use middlemen. Your one-time registration fee of $299 covers our administrative costs. The low weekly program fee goes directly to your host family, and includes housing, food, project donation and minor expenses. IFRE is a non-profit organization, so your program fees are tax deductible.

Program Fees Cover:
- Meals i.e breakfast, lunch and dinner provided Monday to Friday. Breakfast only will be provided Saturdays and Sundays.

Accommodation and Meal
During your volunteer program in Victoria Falls Town, you'll reside in our comfortable volunteer house located in a secure and tranquil neighborhood. The house, capable of accommodating up to 20 volunteers, is conveniently positioned, with a 5-minute walk to the nearest store and a 20-minute walk to the town center. It features modern amenities such as western-style toilets, air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service, available at a reasonable rate of $5 per bag.
Transportation to and from your project site is included in your program fee, ensuring your convenience. Additionally, the program covers three nutritious meals each day, providing an excellent opportunity to connect and forge friendships with fellow volunteers from diverse backgrounds. The communal mealtime fosters a sense of camaraderie among like-minded individuals, enhancing the overall volunteer experience.
Free Time and Weekends:
While volunteering in Zimbabwe, you'll have the evenings and weekends to explore the wonders of the Victoria Falls area at your own pace. Take advantage of the diverse recreational activities available, ranging from the serene Zambezi River Sunset Cruise to the thrilling Bungee Jump or Victoria Falls Gorge Swing. Arrival and departure
Victoria Falls Town boasts its own international airport, allowing you to fly directly to your destination. Upon booking, provide your flight details to our in-country coordinator, and upon arrival, a representative will be waiting for you at the airport holding a sign with your name. They will ensure your safe transportation to your accommodations.
Upon completion of your volunteer program in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, arranging your departure transportation becomes your responsibility. You can consult with the local project staff for guidance on booking a taxi to the airport.
Visa
You will need to apply for a business visa, not a tourist visa, for your volunteer work. The requirements for this will vary based on your home country, so please do some research based on your nationality and apply several weeks in advance of your travel. Some nationalities may be eligible for an e-visa.

Vaccination
Africa has high rates of epidemics and communicable diseases, so make sure you get vaccinated and also take proper precautions once you are there. Before volunteering in Zimbabwe, make an appointment with your doctor and get up to date on your vaccines.
Recommended vaccines to travel to this destination include hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, cholera, yellow fever, rabies, meningitis, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), chickenpox, shingles, pneumonia and influenza.
